The Mana from Heaven Food Pantry is open each Thursday from 4:00 to 5:15 PM at the Place of Refuge Church at 164 Oak Road.  The only requirement is that there is a need.  For more information call the church at 707-8114.  

 

Glade Creek Community and Senior Citizen Center holds monthly meetings the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.   Everyone is welcome to attend; call 277-3044 for more information.   

The Disabled American Veterans, located behind Kroger on Old Sparta Highway, will have country music every Saturday evening from 7-10 PM, featuring The Buckner Brothers. For information, call 210-7400.

 

The Bread of Life Rescue Mission is in need of donations of non-perishable food such as dry rice or beans, instant potatoes, canned foods, peanut butter, and Jello and Kool-Aid mixes. You may drop off donations at the mission located at 281 W. Fourth Street, or call 707-0503. 

 

The Art Circle Public Library has a Public Internet Lab in the lower level of the building with 8 computers for public use.  The library hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Parking is available in the back; the public is encouraged to take advantage of this free service offered by the library. 

 

Second Chance Resale Store has a great selection of clothing and new books arriving weekly.  They are open in the Crossville Outlet Mall Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Proceeds go to the Avalon Center: Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program.  Volunteers are needed; call Robin at 456-5502 for details.  Donations of household items, clothing, and furniture can be dropped off or call Second Chance to schedule a pickup.

The Scholarship Committee of the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade has begun its 2008 Scholarship Donor Campaign.  The Guild is seeking gifts from individuals, merchants, and businesses to help local art students.  Every year the Art Guild awards a scholarship to a high school senior in Cumberland County or home-schooled student.  For additional information, call 456-2755 or visit www.artguildfairfieldglade.net.

The Church of Christ at Daysville will hold a Gospel Meeting Sunday, May 11th at regular church times and Monday through Friday, May 12th through 16th at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time.  The visiting preacher will be James Meadows; a Homecoming and covered dish meal will be held following the Sunday morning service.

Dennis Gregg will conduct a Rain Barrel workshop Tuesday, May 13th at the Common Ground (405 W. 4th St) at 4:00 p.m.  You will learn how to modify a 55-gallon plastic drum so it can be used as part of your irrigation system.  A $15.00 material charge covers the costs of all materials. Golf: The Musical, will be Thursday through Sunday May 15th through 18th at the Palace Theatre. The Mayland Senior Citizens Club will hold a Pancake Breakfast at 36 Mayland Ballfield Drive Saturday, May 17th from 8 to 11:00 a.m.  Cost is $3 per person; everyone is invited to attend and see Pop’s Pancake Machine at work.  Proceeds will go to the Mayland Senior Citizens Club Building Fund.

Cumberland Worship Center’s monthly regional gathering, Mountain Ablaze, will be held Saturday, May 17th at 6:00 p.m.  Kathy Cuidry, worship leader from the Nashville area, will lead the service.   Cumberland Worship Center is located at 145 Interstate Drive; everyone is welcome! Childcare is available for children from infants to five years of age. 

The First Annual Cumberland County March of Dimes Poker Run will be Saturday, May 17th. Registration begins at 11am at Shadden Tire South.  Last bike out by 12; cost is $15 for the First Hand or $25 for two.  There will be BBQ and door prizes after the ride. Proceeds will help fight pre-maturity and save babies.  

 

St Raphael’s Episcopal Church will hold their annual Strawberry Festival Saturday, May 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  They will have Tennessee Strawberries and will be serving large servings of Strawberry Shortcake for $4.  The church is located at 1038 Sparta Highway ; everyone is welcome.

The Southern Stars Symphonic Brass will be in concert Sunday, May 18th at 4pm at the Fairfield Glade Conference and Community Center.   This 30 piece ensemble plays a wide variety of music styles, which appeal to all ages.  Tickets are $15 for Adults and $5 for Students/Children, and can be purchased at First National Bank of Tennessee 's at the Fairfield Glade Recreation Department.

Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church will celebrate their first homecoming on Sunday May 18th, at the new Community and Conference Center  at  128 Stonehenge Drive in Fairfield Glade. Activities will begin at 10:00 a.m.

The American Red Cross will hold a Blood Drive Tuesday, May 27th.  It will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.  All presenting donors will receive an American Red Cross umbrella.  Donors must be in good general health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old.   

 

UCHRA will hold a commodities distribution for Cumberland County Tuesday, May 27th from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Community Complex.  Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities. 

 

Panther Coach Mike Buck's Panther Basketball Camp will be held at Stone Memorial High School Tuesday, May 27th through Friday, May 30th. Camp will run daily from 8:30-11:30 AM. The fee is $70. The Friends of the Library Annual Dinner Meeting will be held Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Cumberland County Community Complex.  Special guest speaker will be author Michael Sims.   Tickets for the dinner are $20, and are on sale at the Art Circle Public Library.

Friday, June 6th is the start of the Concert Series at the State Park Amphitheater beside the restaurant.  Highland Rim Bluegrass Band from Nashville will play at 6pm.  This is a free concert for the public.  For more info call 484-6138.  

 

The FCA Cumberland County Classic Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, June 7th at the Lake Tansi Golf Course.  Registration is at 11:30 followed by lunch and shotgun start at 1:00 p.m.  Team entry is $400 or $100 for individuals.   

 

The 4th Annual Christmas on the Mountain Charity Ride will be held Saturday, June 7th with registration at 2:00 p.m. at Volunteer Motorsports.  Donation is $10 per rider and includes door prizes and catfish dinner after the ride.  All proceeds go to Christmas on the Mountain to provide toys for needy children on the Plateau.
